Ayo Adeseun, a former senator and prominent member of the All Progressives Congress, has stepped down from his position as Mayegun of Ogbomosho land.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

His resignation follows the decision of the Soun of Ogbomoso, Afolabi Ghandi Olaoye, to uphold his suspension from the title without reversal.

In his statement, Adeseun said he could no longer remain in the position due to what he described as the monarch’s heavy-handed approach and policies that have deepened divisions within the Ogbomoso community.

He accused the traditional ruler of fueling tension through religious and political influences, which he believes have contributed to unrest among residents.

Adeseun also referenced ongoing legal disputes involving the Chief Imam, stating that such matters should be resolved through the courts rather than through interference from the palace.

In a resignation letter dated March 31, 2026, he alleged that Oba Olaoye had been involved in conflicts with other traditional rulers and community leaders, actions he claimed disrupted local organisations and targeted individuals who have contributed to the development of the town.

He further argued that these actions are contrary to the long-standing peaceful traditions of Ogbomosoland.

Earlier, on March 23, 2026, Oba Olaoye had suspended Adeseun indefinitely from his role as Mayegun, citing insubordination, disrespect, and a failure to recognise the authority of the throne as reasons for the decision.

The palace maintained that the suspension was necessary to uphold the dignity of the traditional institution.

Adeseun, however, stated that he would no longer engage with the Soun and emphasised that disputes should be resolved in accordance with the rule of law.
