Initially, the legal action was initiated by Emefiele’s siblings in response to perceived violations of their fundamental human rights, linked to the controversies surrounding the suspended CBN governor.

Both the DSS and the AGF did not oppose the withdrawal of the case, and subsequently, Justice E Okpe of the FCT High Court struck off the case from the records.

This turn of events may be linked to recent reports indicating that Emefiele is considering a plea bargain arrangement with the federal government in relation to the charges brought against him.

Reliable sources have disclosed that Emefiele and his co-accused, Saadat Yaro, are exploring the possibility of a plea bargain to reach a settlement with the government.

Recalling that the federal government had levied a 20-count charge amounting to N6.9 billion against Emefiele and Yaro, encompassing allegations of procurement law violations and contract inflation, the scheduled arraignment at a High Court of the Federal Capital Territory did not occur as planned.

Notably, the court’s cause list did not mention the arraignment, and neither Emefiele nor Yaro was present in court. Additionally, no exceptional security measures were noted around the court premises.

Insider sources suggest that the deferment of the arraignment is due to Emefiele’s request, intended to facilitate negotiations among all parties involved for a potential plea bargain agreement.
