This caution was communicated in Abuja on Monday by Representative James Faleke, the Chairman of the House Committee on Finance, during an interactive session with revenue-generating agencies.
As per information provided by the Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), local airlines carried 16 million passengers in 2022, while international carriers transported three million passengers.
Reports indicate that N1.28 trillion was generated from ticket sales to overseas passengers, with N64 billion constituting 5% of the total distributed among the five regulatory bodies in 2022.
It was also confirmed through ADR16 papers held by the Nigeria Airspace Management Agency (NAMA) that local airlines transported 14,572,614 passengers in 2021.
Records presented to the Committee revealed that the NCAA reported revenue of N12.7 billion from the share of gross revenue allocated to industry regulating organizations.
However, the legislator pointed out that this amount fell short of the NCAA’s projected gross revenue share of N66 billion, anticipated from both domestic and international travel revenues in 2022.
