The bill, sponsored by Philip Agbese, the deputy spokesman of the House, received unanimous approval from the members.

Lawal Shettima Ali, representing Bursari/Geidam/Yunusari, seconded the motion to read the bill, and Ghali Mustafa Tijani, representing Ghaya Federal Constituency, supported the ensuing debate.

The House subsequently referred the bill to the House Committees on Agriculture and Colleges for further action.

Agbese, in his submission, emphasized the timeliness of the proposed university, citing the global return to agriculture to boost economies.

He highlighted the necessity of establishing world-class agricultural learning institutions in Nigeria, particularly given the country’s reliance on petroleum.

Agbese stressed the potential benefits of the proposed institution, noting that over 90% of the population in Ute-Okpu and neighboring communities are farmers.

The Federal University of Agriculture, Ute-Okpu, Delta State, if established, is envisioned to play a pivotal role in promoting and educating people on current best practices in agriculture.

The proposed university aims to conduct education, research, and environmental monitoring and assessment in collaboration with other world-class institutions, contributing to sustainable societal development and improved living conditions.
