The former governors, led by Lucky Igbinedion, visited Tinubu and the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, to congratulate them on their election and appointment, respectively. During the meeting, discussions on advancing the country were also reportedly held.
While some view the visit as an attempt to guide Tinubu, others consider it merely a reunion of old political acquaintances without significant relevance to the nation’s progress.
However, some sources suggest that the meeting might have been arranged at the instance of Akume, a part of the 1999 governors’ cohort.
Critics argue that the governors who are not members of the ruling party engaging in such a visit could also be accused of anti-party activities.
As the PDP continues its legal battle against Tinubu’s victory, some question the appropriateness of any past or present PDP governors being part of the visit, citing similar scrutiny faced by other PDP figures who met with Tinubu previously, such as Nyesom Wike and Governor Seyi Makinde.
