supporter in the Nembe community of Bayelsa State. The organization is calling for a thorough investigation to identify and bring the culprits to justice.
Esther Ikurite, the Chairperson of the Forum, conveyed this sentiment in a statement provided to the media on Friday.
She linked the outbreak of violence to provocative statements and a call for violence against supporters of opposition parties, as attributed to the running mate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) gubernatorial candidate, Joshua Maciver.
It was reported that Maciver, during a campaign rally in Twon Brass, encouraged APC supporters to forcibly remove supporters of any opposing political party who engaged in misconduct and drive them into the sea.
The Forum’s statement underlined their commitment to peace, unity, and a sense of fraternity among their members.
They have actively contributed to the development and progress of Bayelsa State. However, the recent incidents of political violence have severely shaken their confidence and created an atmosphere of fear and insecurity.
The Forum strongly denounced all forms of violence, intimidation, and hate speech as the state approaches the upcoming gubernatorial election scheduled for November 11, 2023.
