Zachary Maduka, aged 70, served as the Campaign Director for the Labour Party during the 2023 elections. He also held the position of Home Branch Chairman of the Uturu Town Union and was the leader of a Vigilante Group in the area.

In a statement issued by the Chief Press Secretary to the Deputy Speaker, Levinus Nwabughiogu, on Saturday, Hon. Benjamin Kalu expressed shock and outrage at the brutal murder of the Labour Party chieftain.

The assailants not only beheaded Maduka but also displayed his severed head before his helpless family members before making their escape.

The Deputy Speaker, who represents Bende Federal Constituency in the State, vehemently condemned the heinous crime, describing it as both a sin against God and a grave offense against humanity.

Hon. Kalu extended his heartfelt condolences to the family of the deceased and pledged his office’s willingness to assist the Abia State government in its efforts to apprehend the culprits and enhance security in the area.

He called upon law enforcement agencies not only to conduct extensive searches throughout the state but also to employ intelligence and investigative techniques to track down the perpetrators, wherever they may have fled, and promptly bring them to justice.
