During a media session with the Edo State Journalists Forum in Abuja on Saturday, he highlighted factors such as experience, capacity, and knowledge that set him apart from potential successors to Governor Godwin Obaseki, whose second term concludes next year.

Shaibu stressed the urgency for practical governance in Edo, cautioning against experimenting with individuals unfamiliar with the state’s politics and needs.

He advocated for a needs assessment, asserting that a deep understanding of the people’s requirements comes from living among them.

He underscored the importance of competence and experience, expressing concern over the past trend of officials using initial terms for learning on the job and subsequent terms for personal gain.

Having been immersed in the system, Shaibu claimed familiarity with Edo State’s debt profile and outlined his ability to secure funding for state projects.

He rejected the idea that his political ambition was driven by an unwavering determination to succeed Governor Obaseki at any cost.

Instead, he positioned himself as someone making himself available for the greater good, emphasizing the interconnected destinies of the people.

Addressing the issue of zoning, Shaibu dismissed claims of a convention in Edo State, asserting that historical Governorship data did not show a pattern of zoning.

He argued for equity and fairness, suggesting that Edo North should produce the next Governor. Despite potential sentiments based on ethnicity or religion, Shaibu pledged to govern as the leader of Edo State, drawing on lessons learned from past administrations.

Shaibu disclosed his preference for the PDP as the platform for his gubernatorial bid, citing ongoing consultations and expressing confidence in securing the PDP ticket.

He positioned himself as a street-savvy candidate, committed to representing the people’s perspectives, with a focus on practical governance rather than personal gain.
