Idris noted that the administration believes the current focus should be on allowing these initiatives to fully unfold rather than engaging in protests. He emphasized that genuine reforms take time but are effective in delivering their promises.

The government had urged traditional rulers, religious leaders, youth groups, and civil society organizations to encourage dialogue over protests. Idris expressed concerns that the protest, lacking clear demands and organization, could be exploited by elements with ulterior motives.

Unfortunately, the peaceful protest in some states and the Federal Capital Territory was reportedly taken over by such elements, leading to violent incidents, including arson, vandalism, and clashes with law enforcement. These actions resulted in loss of life and property damage.

In response, the Federal Government acted promptly to restore order while instructing security forces to follow international standards in managing the protests. Idris assured that an investigation into the violence is underway to hold those responsible accountable and prevent future incidents.

He concluded by assuring that the worst is over and expressed confidence in the country moving forward to benefit from ongoing policy and program interventions.
