to compensate Uyo resident Peace Ekom Robert with the sum of N200 million as damages for her unlawful arrest and detention since March of this year.

Justice Ntong Ntong, the presiding judge, issued this directive yesterday in a judgment pertaining to the enforcement of fundamental human rights, as brought before the court by the applicant.

The case outlined that in March of this year, Ifenyinwa Anthonia Olua approached the applicant, Peace Ekom Robert, seeking assistance in connecting her with someone in Europe who could purchase Euros and pay her in Nigerian Naira.

A total of 55,000 Euros, equivalent to N42.9 million, was reportedly transferred to a Spanish account.

Surprised by the swift and successive transfers, the account holder alerted Spanish authorities, leading to suspicions of illicit funds and subsequent arrest of the applicant by the Police.

Respondents in the suit included the IGP, the Commissioner of Police in charge of administration at the Force Criminal Investigation Department in Abuja (Mr. Babazango Ibrahim).

DSP Yusuf Dauda of Anti-Homicide Section in Alagbon, Lagos, Inspector Celestina Ugbaja of Special Fraud Unit in Ikoyi, Lagos, and the Police Service Commission.

In a one-hour judgment, Justice Ntong Ntong noted that he had carefully examined the record file and found no evidence of the Inspector General of Police and other respondents challenging the applicant’s claims.
