The NGF, in collaboration with the United Nations Development Programme, orchestrated this leadership retreat with the objective of fostering more profound governance practices at the sub-national level.
Speaking on Sunday subsequent to the intensive training event arranged at the behest of Rwandan President Paul Kagame, Makinde expressed his contentment with the robust attendance of 19 Nigerian state governors at the retreat.
He highlighted that the retreat provided a platform for deliberation on redefining leadership paradigms and harnessing innovative technologies, drawing inspiration from Rwanda’s transformative journey.
According to a joint statement authored by Abdulrazaque Bello-Barkindo, the Director of Media at the NGF, and Christabel Chanda-Ginsberg, Head of Public Engagement, Outreach, and Partnership Lead at UNDP Nigeria, the training titled ‘Reimagining leadership in a fast-changing world’ encompassed interactive sessions delving into Rwanda’s triumphant evolution into an investment hub through digital technology, urban planning, and socio-economic advancements. The participants also enjoyed a private dialogue with President Kagame.
Makinde’s statement in the release read, “It has been an engaging retreat. I am glad a significant number of governors are here to be part of it so that, together, we can use the knowledge acquired.
Our discussions have equipped us with adaptive leadership strategies and identifying pathways to effective governance and nationwide sustainable development.”
