IPM sounded the alarm, claiming to have uncovered a coordinated plan by the PDP aimed at inciting chaos to derail the election. Jeff Nwaoha, the group’s Director General, issued a statement in Owerri on Tuesday, expressing these concerns.
“What the people of Imo must be aware of is that PDP agents have struck a deal with two influential figures from Rivers and Edo states, intending to infiltrate Imo State with a force of over 2,000 armed militants to sow chaos and prevent the governorship election from taking place.”
“These armed militants are expected to be dispersed throughout all twenty-seven local government areas in the state, with a specific directive to target election officials, hijack, and divert electoral materials.”
“Inadvertently, the National Publicity Secretary of the PDP confirmed this plot to destabilize Imo State ahead of the election when he issued a puzzling statement, provocatively advising the Nigeria Police Force to cancel the Conference and Retreat of Senior Police Officers scheduled to take place in Imo State.
The tone of his statement revealed his party’s deep frustration with the planned police conference,” the statement asserted.
In response to these allegations, Ikenna Onuoha, the spokesperson for the Imo PDP Campaign Council, countered that the PDP possesses reliable information suggesting that leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC), in collaboration with senior INEC officials, have already fabricated the results of the upcoming November 11 governorship election.
He claimed that the APC is merely waiting for the opportunity to upload these falsified results onto INEC’s portal.
Furthermore, he alleged that the APC leaders in the state are planning to unleash violence against PDP members, including some of their media representatives, shortly before the election, as part of an effort to disenfranchise them.
Onuoha concluded by emphasizing that while the PDP is not currently in power, they have entrusted their safety to divine protection since those responsible for ensuring it lack the capability to do so.
He warned the opposition and their associates to steer clear and allow the people of Imo to have a peaceful election.
