Workers in Benue State can breathe a sigh of relief as the state government has finally paid them one month’s salary. The workers, who had been enduring months of unpaid wages, expressed their joy after receiving alerts on Sunday.

Oraduen, an employee of the state government, expressed his happiness at finally receiving payment after seven months of working without pay. He shared his excitement about being able to use his car again and provide for his family’s needs. Oraduen mentioned that the morale in his office had significantly improved, with absent workers returning to their duty posts. He also expressed hope that three months’ worth of salary would be paid by the end of the week.

Another worker, Fidelis, received an alert on Monday morning after being owed eight months of salary. Fidelis and his colleague, Daniel, expressed their gratitude for the one month’s payment, which would help alleviate the hardship their families had experienced during the months of unpaid salaries.

Terungwa Igbe, the Chairman of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) in the state, confirmed that the workers had indeed received one month’s salary.

However, some others, including teachers and pensioners, reported that they were still awaiting payment. Doosuur, a teacher at a primary school in Makurdi, expressed hope that they would be paid soon. Comrade Akosu Ioream, Chairman of the Concerned/Aggrieved Pensioners in Benue State, mentioned that local government pensioners of the primary school board had started receiving alerts, but the situation for Benue State pensioners was unclear. Ioream stated that they were still awaiting authentic information regarding the payment of their pensions and the possible inclusion of additional months.

Overall, the payment of one month’s salary has brought relief to workers in Benue State, but the situation for teachers and pensioners remains uncertain as they await further updates.
