Commissioner of Police Muhammad Usaini Gumel cautioned that individuals attempting to disturb the peace would be apprehended and subjected to the full force of the law.
The police commissioner disclosed that credible intelligence indicated certain political party supporters were using unconventional media channels to mobilize and plan street protests in response to the recent Kano State Governorship Appeal Court verdict delivered on November 17, 2023.
The protesters allegedly aim to shut down the state, potentially leading to violent clashes.
In response, the police command urged residents to exercise caution, emphasizing that any planned protests must adhere to legal provisions.
It was noted that prior to the court ruling, leaders of both the NNPP and APC had been invited to the Kano State Police Command, where a peace accord was signed on November 16, 2023.
The accord sought to maintain harmony and ensure a peaceful political environment, regardless of the judgment’s outcome.
The police commissioner emphasized that the signed accord prohibited politically motivated gatherings and actions that could incite violence, urging supporters to refrain from engaging in mass activities that might escalate tensions or undermine security and the judiciary’s sanctity.
Residents were called upon to remain calm, avoid unlawful gatherings, protests, or processions that could potentially trigger violence.
