He expressed gratitude to stakeholders and Nigerians for their support in response to his reappointment by President Bola Tinubu.
Emphasizing the significance of collaborative efforts to boost revenue growth and fortify the naira and the nation’s economy, Kyari described his reappointment as a new challenge and pledged dedication to stabilizing the oil industry and enhancing service delivery for increased revenue.
“I humbly appeal to stakeholders in the oil sector and fellow Nigerians to support the company under his leadership to ensure the success of its mandate. Consequently, I request all parties concerned to refrain from issuing congratulatory messages on his reappointment,” the statement specified.
In another development, Kyari announced Nigeria’s intention to cease fuel imports by 2024 during a meeting with the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas.
He attributed the sluggish refinery activities in Nigeria to the fuel subsidy regime, noting that the removal of the subsidy has attracted substantial private sector investments.
Kyari assured that the Port Harcourt refinery would resume operations by December 2023, the Warri refinery in the first quarter of 2024, and the Kaduna refinery by the end of 2024.
“I can confirm to you that by the end of December latest, we will start the Port Harcourt refinery; early in the first quarter of 2024, we will start the Warri refinery, and by the end of 2024, Kaduna refinery will come into operation.
This is the commitment we are giving today, and you can hold us accountable on this; in 2024, many initiatives, including the rehabilitation of our refineries and the upcoming startup of the Dangote refinery, will make Nigeria a net exporter of petroleum products in 2024. We will no longer be talking about fuel importation by the end of 2024; I am very optimistic that this will crystallize,” Kyari affirmed.
Furthermore, Kyari highlighted the transparency initiatives of NNPC, mentioning that the company has been publishing its financial statements since 2018.
He projected government revenue from the company to reach N4.5 trillion by the end of 2023, emphasizing NNPCL’s commitment to returning value to shareholders in line with the Petroleum Industry Act.
