Just three days before the February 25 Presidential election, Tinubu held a leading position with 45% search interest on Google, followed by Obi with 29%. Atiku held 26% interest, and Kwankwaso trailed with 3%.
After the presidential election, Tinubu’s popularity soared, reaching 54% of the search interest. Despite his reduced public appearances, he remained the most searched candidate based on Google search interest. Obi ranked second with 36% search interest, showing improvement after the election. Atiku’s popularity, however, experienced a significant decline to 8%, while Kwankwaso dropped to 2%.
In the latest ranking, which took place six days before the swearing-in and post-inauguration of the president, Tinubu’s popularity surged to 82%, surpassing Obi, Atiku, and Kwankwaso. The peak search interest occurred on May 29, during Tinubu’s presidential inauguration, when he delivered his inaugural speech stating, “fuel subsidy is gone.”
Tinubu’s search interest was prominent in states such as Benue, Sokoto, Gombe, Kano, Yobe, Republic of Niger, Bauchi, Kogi, Kaduna, Kebbi, Adamawa, Plateau, Akwa Ibom, Ondo, among others.
Obi’s search interest experienced a significant drop, declining from the 36% recorded in April to 12%, marking an all-time low. This decline could be attributed to his loss in the presidential election and a decreased online presence among his passionate followers.
Obi’s search interest primarily came from states such as Benue, Anambra, Enugu, Cross River, Abia, Nasarawa, Bauchi, Ebonyi, Plateau, Imo, among others.
Atiku’s 4% search interest was prominent in Gombe, Kebbi, Taraba, Plateau, Kano, Borno, Katsina, Nasarawa, Cross River, among others.
Kwankwaso’s search interest focused on places such as Yobe, Gombe, Katsina, Kano, Sokoto, Bauchi, Nasarawa, Ekiti, Republic of Niger, Borno, among others.
