The governor, represented by his deputy, Comrade Yakubu Garba, also attributed some of the country’s security challenges to climate change.

He emphasized that climate change poses a substantial concern in Nigeria, leading to issues such as flooding, desertification, and environmental pollution.

Despite ongoing efforts to combat these challenges, the destructive impacts of climate change continue to occur annually, with some of the nation’s security challenges also linked to it. Governor Bago lamented that the media tends to underreport the consequences of climate change in Nigeria.

Furthermore, he urged journalists, particularly those reporting from the parliament, to equip themselves with the necessary skills and tools to incorporate climate change into their reporting.

This approach can help shape the legislative and executive agendas and has prompted the organization of a Green Economy Summit.

Under his leadership, the Niger State Government has given priority to addressing climate change to mitigate both natural and human-induced disasters.
