In an interview on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily program, the Edo Deputy Governor, who officially declared his candidacy for the September 21, 2024.
governorship election under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), emphasized his constitutional right to contest despite the strained relationship with his principal.
Shaibu insisted that rather than resorting to intimidation and harassment, a more constructive approach would involve convening all aspirants for a discussion to express preferences and concerns.
He expressed, “If I am governor tomorrow and my deputy wants to contest, he has the right to contest. If I want to support somebody else, I also have the right to support somebody else, not intimidation.”
Highlighting the need for respect for constitutional rights, Shaibu lamented the blurred line between loyalty and individual entitlements among some supporters.
While expressing his commitment to loyalty, he underscored that his right to contest is a constitutional entitlement and should not be met with intimidation or harassment.
Shaibu concluded, “I have no problem, but I beg the governor, the governor should know he is the leader, he must be able to organize all of us, he must not love one more than the other. If he must do so, he must not humiliate one.”
