During a courtesy visit to the Acting Governor of Ondo State, Honorable Lucky Aiyedatiwa, while inspecting federal roads in the South-West region of the country, Umahi disclosed that Nigerians should expect to see more concrete pavement roads in the future.

However, during his visit to the road, Minister Umahi announced that concrete pavement roads offer a longer lifespan compared to bitumen roads.
He cited the extensive testing of concrete roads in various states, revealing their impressive 50-year lifespan compared to asphalt roads, which typically last only 15 years.
Furthermore, Umahi emphasized that any federal road construction contract with completion progress below 20 percent would be revamped to incorporate concrete pavement technology.
Addressing the issue of bitumen importation, Umahi noted that it exerts significant pressure on the Naira. He asserted that embracing concrete pavement roads would promote local content, reducing reliance on imported materials.
He stated, “It’s crucial to understand the introduction of concrete technology in our road construction. Many roads constructed with concrete have a lifespan of 50 years.
