Education Ministry Staff Reveal Reasons Behind Tinubu’s Dismissal Of Prof. MammanStaff members of Nigeria’s Federal Ministry of Education have provided insights into the reasons behind President Bola Tinubu’s decision to dismiss Prof. Tahir Mamman from his position as Minister of Education. According to Naija News, Prof. Mamman was removed on Wednesday, along with four other ministers: Barr. Uju-Ken Ohanenye (Minister of Women Affairs), Lola Ade-John (Minister of Tourism), Abdullahi Muhammad Gwarzo (Minister of State for Housing and Urban Development), and Dr. Jamila Bio Ibrahim (Minister of Youth Development).....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
An insider from the ministry told SaharaReporters that Mamman’s dismissal was partly due to his alleged failure to address longstanding salary arrears owed to certain employees. “About a month or two ago, it was widely reported that he was among the least performing ministers. Many years of arrears remain unpaid despite numerous promises,” the source revealed, adding that frustrated staff had even staged protests over unpaid wages.
Another contributing factor to his removal was Mamman’s reported attempt to install Prof. Aisha Maikudi, the Acting Vice Chancellor of the University of Abuja, as the permanent Vice Chancellor. The insider noted, “The appointment of an unqualified Vice Chancellor might have also played a role in his dismissal. If news of the improper process reaches the public, it will expose deeper issues within the ministry.”
SaharaReporters previously reported that the University of Abuja’s Governing Council sought to appoint Prof. Maikudi as the permanent Vice Chancellor, despite her alleged lack of qualifications. Sources indicated that the council had relaxed certain criteria to facilitate her selection, raising concerns about transparency.
Additionally, it was suggested that former Vice Chancellor Abdul-Rasheed Na’Allah may be behind the push for Maikudi’s appointment as a way to repay a longstanding favor to her father, who had previously supported Na’Allah’s controversial appointment as VC five years ago. Investigations revealed that the university’s job advertisement for the position omitted the usual requirement for post-professorial experience, thus making Prof. Maikudi, who became a professor in 2022, eligible for consideration.
