Diezani Alison-Madueke appeared in a London court on Monday, facing charges of accepting bribes in the form of cash, private jet flights, luxury items, and the use of high-end properties in the UK in exchange for the allocation of oil contracts.

Prosecutor Andy Young alleged that Alison-Madueke, who was not required to enter a plea, received various advantages in cash and in-kind from individuals seeking to secure or maintain oil contracts worth billions of dollars in total.

In response, the EFCC issued a statement through its Head of Media & Publicity, Dele Oyewale, acknowledging that the charges against Diezani in the London court differ from the 13-count money laundering charges brought against her by the anti-graft agency.

Oyewale emphasized that “criminality is criminality,” regardless of jurisdictional distinctions. He also stated that the money laundering charges against Madueke span multiple jurisdictions, including Dubai, the United Kingdom, the United States of America, and Nigeria.

Furthermore, Oyewale noted that the EFCC has secured an arrest warrant and initiated extradition proceedings to bring the former Minister to trial in Nigeria.
