The governor delivered this caution during a visit to the palace of the Okpo XXI of Okpoama Kingdom, King Ebitimi Banigo, in Brass Local Government Area, where he led the PDP governorship campaign team over the weekend.
He emphasized, “Let me emphasize that any traditional leader who colludes to disrupt the peace during the election risks losing their throne under my administration.
We will not tolerate electoral violence as a government committed to democratic principles. Political parties and their supporters should be able to campaign for votes without fear of harassment.”
Expressing gratitude to the Okpoama monarch, the council of chiefs, and other stakeholders for their blessings and warm reception, Governor Diri urged them to maintain the prevailing peace in the state before, during, and after the election.
In another development, the governor received numerous defectors from the Seibarugu Political Dynasty of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state.
This influential group, led by former Acting Governor and Speaker of the House of Assembly, Chief Werinipre Seibarugu, has members throughout the state.
During a formal declaration at a meeting with Governor Douye Diri at Government House, Yenagoa, the coordinator of the Seibarugu Dynasty, Mr. Ebiye Waripamo, stated that they were drawn to the PDP due to the governor’s peaceful and development-oriented leadership style.
