The women, who have consistently held peaceful protests and prayer rallies across Port Harcourt, maintained that their demonstrations are self-motivated and driven by a genuine desire to draw attention to the ongoing political turmoil in the state.

Speaking on behalf of the group, one of the coordinators, Christiana Tamunoberetowari, dismissed any claims of financial inducement, stressing that the governor is not involved in their activities.

“Absolutely not! The governor has not given us a single kobo. I’m a two-time Vice Chairman and I coordinate activities in my local government. We haven’t received anything from him,” she stated.

Tamunoberetowari emphasized that their movement is entirely voluntary. “Those women you see out there left their market stalls and homes to protest of their own free will. The governor is unaware of our specific actions—he is not our sponsor. Each local government has its own coordinator managing things.”

She added that their involvement is out of genuine concern for Rivers State. “This is a service to our state from the heart. You don’t pay a mother to nurse her child—no one needs to pay us to stand up for our state. We haven’t received a thing.”

Another coordinator, identified simply as Ebony, echoed her remarks. She expressed hope for a peaceful resolution to the political crisis and for Governor Fubara’s eventual return.

“We are grateful to now be at the negotiation stage and hopeful that our governor will come back. There’s a grace factor at work, and a God factor. Since his swearing-in, we’ve prayed for him, even before this crisis. And we’ll continue to do so,” she affirmed.
