Tunji Olubunmi-Ojo and Tanko Sununu were the two members of the House who received ministerial appointments from Tinubu.

Olubunmi-Ojo represented the Akoko North-East/Akoko North-West constituency in Ondo State, while Sununu represented the Yauri/Shanga/Ngaski federal constituency in Katsina State. Their respective ministerial roles were Minister of Interior and Minister of State for Education.

During the plenary on Tuesday, Speaker Abbas announced the vacancies of these former lawmakers following the submission of their resignation letters as members of the House of Representatives.

This declaration aligns with the provisions of section 68 of the 1999 constitution, which states that a member of the House of Representatives must vacate their seat if appointed as President, Vice-President, Governor, Deputy Governor, Minister of the Government of the Federation, Commissioner of the Government of a State, or Special Adviser.

Notably, in June, Femi Gbajabiamila, the former House Speaker, resigned as a member of the 10th House of Representatives after President Tinubu appointed him as his Chief of Staff, leading to the declaration of his seat as vacant.

In a related development, Salisu Majigiri, a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has taken his oath as a new member of the House.

Majigiri emerged victorious in the February 25th election to represent the Mashi/Dutsi federal constituency in Katsina, securing 27,387 votes against his closest rival, Mansir Ali of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who garnered 20,596 votes.

This election victory was confirmed by the Supreme Court, following a legal dispute brought by Nazifi Yusuf, also a PDP member.
