The committee’s mission will encompass a comprehensive evaluation of the current procedures and regulations governing firearms licensing, with the objective of enhancing their efficiency, transparency, and accountability.
Adejobi also mentioned that the Police Force will engage with pertinent stakeholders, including legal experts, civil society organizations, and industry professionals, to ensure a comprehensive and well-informed review.
In addition, as part of his commitment to addressing all forms of insecurity in the country, the IGP has issued a stern warning to individuals involved in the unlawful possession of firearms and light weapons. He emphasized that the illegal proliferation of such arms poses a substantial threat to national peace and stability.
Consequently, the Nigeria Police Force declared its firm determination to combat the illegal manufacturing, sale, possession, and use of firearms. It stressed that possessing firearms without the proper licenses and permits not only violates the law but also poses a grave danger to society.
The IGP reassured that the Nigeria Police Force would spare no effort in pursuing and prosecuting those engaged in these unlawful activities to the fullest extent of the law.
Furthermore, the Inspector-General of Police has instructed all State Commissioners of Police and supervising Assistant Inspectors-General of Police responsible for zonal commands and tactical squads to initiate a comprehensive crackdown on the illegal production, sale, possession, and use of prohibited firearms in the country.
