Speaker of the House, Hon Tajudeen Abbas, made this commitment during a meeting with the Directorate of the Technical Aid Corps, which operates under the Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Abuja.
The delegation from the Technical Aid Corps was led by their newly appointed director-general, Hon. Yusuf Buba Yakub, who formerly served as the chairman of the House Committee on Foreign Affairs in the 9th Assembly.
Speaker Abbas congratulated Yakub on his appointment to head the TAC, recognizing his qualities and background that led to the appointment.
He assured Yakub and the TAC of the House’s readiness to assist the agency in fulfilling its objectives, emphasizing that they could always count on the House’s support.
Reflecting on the early days of the TAC, Speaker Abbas recalled how many young Nigerians, including himself, aspired to become volunteers when the agency was first established. He praised the TAC for producing numerous Nigerian ambassadors worldwide and urged them to continue identifying patriotic and disciplined individuals to serve the country’s interests abroad.
In his remarks, Director-General Yakub described the visit as a homecoming and congratulated Speaker Abbas on his overwhelming election victory for the speakership.
He stressed the importance of diplomacy in global politics, advocating for soft power and diplomacy over the use of force. Yakub also sought the support of the speaker, recognizing the critical role of the parliament in their operations.
